K & S Dragonfly

K & S reached out to us to do a little commission dragonfly piece for their Mom for her birthday. It turned out very nice and hopefully Mom will be very happy with it. The piece utilized various techniques: copper foil and leaded stained glass, a fused glass element and a bit of etching. At the bottom is a slideshow with a few pictures from start to finish.

It all starts on paper.

Individual pieces are cut, ground to size then copper foiled.

Etching glass starts with our laser engraver. Afterwards it is sandblasted

All the pieces are soldered together.

The leaded glass frame is started.

The piece is now ready for cementing

Cementing the leaded glass portion to lock in the glass pieces. Yes, it looks like I'm destroying it

Cleaning off the cement with whiting, the same stuff they use to put lines on playing fields.

Ready for cleaning before using black patina then waxing.
